Shanghai: attractions for millions of visitors
Shanghai is famous for being the economic capital of Asia and has attractions in all fields, from economy to tourism. Its cultural and historical resources are countless. Shanghai has important tourist attractions such as the Shanghai Museum, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the circus of the world, the Jinmao Tower, the Grand Theatre. In addition, many international exhibitions and fairs (not only Shanghai Expo 2010) are attracting an increasing number of visitors from around the world.
The 300 tourist attractions in Shanghai
The tourist attractions of Shanghai are very numerous: there are 23 important monuments under the protection of the state, there are also more than 100 monuments under the protection of the municipalities and over other 300 attractions. Also 200 modern buildings has very special features to attract visitors. The Bund is famous and much visited: here are buildings (made between 1873 and 1937) that testify to the cultural exchanges between China and the West and are considered examples of modern architecture.
The second TV Tower in China
The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is 468 meters high, and is the second highest TV tower in Asia (after Guangzhou New TV Tower). The Oriental Pearl TV Tower was once the tallest building in Shanghai, but the record currently belongs to the Shanghai World Financial Center (which measures 492 meters). The Oriental Pearl TV has become a characteristic of the panorama of Shanghai and is very popular with tourists.
The most famous attractions
Nanjing Road is the most famous shopping street in China, and is a must for tourists visiting Shanghai. It is about 5.6 km long, contains about 750 shops and throughout the year is visited by millions of people. Yuyuan Garden is the largest of the ancient gardens in Shanghai. Near the garden is the temple of the city surrounded by streets lined with small restaurants, small shops and local snacks. Other major attractions are the Temple of Jade Buddha, a famous Buddhist shrine, Xin Tian Di is a pedestrian street in the historic city famous for its fashion shops, Longhua Park is famous for the ancient Longhua Pagoda.
